About Us

As the public policy arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is dedicated to addressing social, moral, and ethical concerns, with particular attention to their impact on American families and their faith. As president of the ERLC since 1988, Dr. Richard Land has championed the interests of American families while strongly advocating religious liberty worldwide, most recently through his appointment by President George W. Bush to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.

Princeton and Oxford educated and a nationally renowned authority in ethics, American and world history, religious liberty, and church-state issues, Dr. Land's fresh and insightful perspective is highly sought after and widely respected. He has built strong relationships with representatives of many national media organizations, including, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today, who regularly call upon him for timely analysis on ethical, moral, cultural, and public policy issues.

From the offices in Washington, D.C., to the For Faith & Family Broadcast ministries, heard weekly by 1.5 million listeners around the country, the ERLC works to keep the American public informed on critical issues facing the family and the nation.

The ERLC's Research Institute brings together some of the brightest minds in the country to develop strategies for transforming the culture. In collaboration with the ERLC Editorial and Print Communications Team, materials are developed to assist in upholding the sanctity of human life and religious liberty, restoring the biblical family, fighting substance abuse, and eliminating the devastating effects of gambling, pornography, and world hunger.
